Privacy Policy

How ScanX handles your information โ€” in plain language.

App: ScanX Package: pa.as Platforms: iOS & Android Version: 1.0.7 Effective: 1 October 2026

The short version

1. Who we are

ScanX (the "app", "we", or "us"), published by Dowble, is a document scanner and QR code reader for iOS and Android. It lets you scan paper to PDF, recognize text (OCR), organize documents into folders, scan and create QR codes and barcodes, and export or share the results. This Privacy Policy explains what the app does and does not do with information on your device, and applies to both the iOS and Android versions.

2. Information the app accesses

ScanX processes the following locally on your device. None of it is sent to us.

a. Scanned documents & images

Pages you capture with the camera, and photos or PDFs you import or share into the app, are processed and saved in the app's private storage so you can view, edit, and export them. Original captures are also kept if "Keep original images" is on in Settings.

b. Recognized text (OCR)

When you recognize text, the page image is analyzed on your device and the resulting text is stored with the document so you can copy, search, or export it.

c. QR codes & barcodes

Codes you scan (with the camera or from an image) and codes you create โ€” links, Wi-Fi details, contacts, UPI payment details, events, and text โ€” are decoded on your device and, if you save them, stored locally. When you tap an action such as Open link, Pay, Call, or Join Wi-Fi, ScanX hands the content to the app or system screen that handles it; to offer those actions, the app checks whether an app on your device can open that type of link, without reading or storing a list of your installed apps.

d. Organization & preferences

Document names, folders, favorites, pins, page order, your pinned code deck, and settings (theme, language, PDF quality, enhancement, trash retention, app lock) are stored locally.

ScanX does not access your contacts, call logs, SMS, location, microphone, health data, or accounts, and builds no advertising profile.

3. Permissions and why they are needed

ScanX asks for a permission only when a feature needs it.

PermissionPurpose
Camera
iOS: NSCameraUsageDescription ยท Android: CAMERA
To scan documents and QR codes/barcodes. Optional โ€” you can still import from your photos and files without it.
Photos
iOS: Photo Library ยท Android: system Photo Picker
To import the images you pick. On Android the system Photo Picker grants access to only the images you choose; ScanX does not request broad photo access.
Save to Photos
iOS: Photo Library Add
Only when you choose to save an exported page or PDF to your photo library.
Files / Storage
iOS: Files ยท Android: Storage Access Framework; READ/WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on older Android versions
To open files you pick and save exports where you choose. The legacy storage permissions are declared by the scanning and camera libraries for older Android versions only.
Face ID / Biometrics
iOS: Face ID ยท Android: USE_BIOMETRIC
Only if you turn on the optional app lock. The operating system performs authentication; ScanX never sees or stores biometric data.
Microphone
Android: RECORD_AUDIO
Declared by the Android camera library that ScanX uses. ScanX opens the camera with audio disabled, never records sound, and does not ask you for microphone access.
Internet
Android: INTERNET
Not used to upload your content. It lets the app download its interface font and lets Google's on-device ML libraries fetch models and send diagnostics (see section 9). Opening a link from a QR code uses your browser.

Scanning, OCR, QR scanning and creation, PDF creation and organizing all work without an account and without an internet connection.

4. How information is used

Information processed by the app is used only to provide its features: capturing and enhancing scans, recognizing text, reading and creating codes, generating PDFs, organizing your library, and exporting or sharing when you ask. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or anything unrelated to the features you see.

5. Data sharing and transfers

ScanX sends content somewhere only when you start it โ€” Share, Print, Export, Save to Photos, or an action on a scanned code. The file or text goes, through the operating system, to the destination you pick (another app, a printer, email, your files); that destination's handling is governed by its provider. Sending feedback opens your own email app. We do not receive, store, or transmit your documents.

6. Data retention and deletion

Your documents, codes and settings stay on your device until you remove them. You can:

Files you exported or saved outside the app โ€” PDFs in your Files or Downloads, images saved to Photos, or anything you shared โ€” are not deleted by uninstalling ScanX. Remove those where you saved them.

7. Security

App data is kept in the operating system's private per-app storage, which other apps cannot read. The optional app lock PIN is stored in the platform's secure storage (Keychain on iOS, encrypted storage on Android). Because nothing is uploaded to us, there is no Dowble server-side copy of your documents that could be breached.

8. Children's privacy

ScanX is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app has no accounts or online profiles.

9. Third-party services

ScanX contains no advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or social-login providers. It uses these Google libraries:

On iOS, a request to rate the app is shown through Apple's standard App Store rating prompt, which is handled by Apple.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA/CPRA. Dowble does not hold any of your personal data, so there is nothing on our side to access, correct, export, or delete โ€” you control your data on your device. For data processed by Google's libraries, see Google's Privacy Policy linked above. You can contact us with any privacy question at the address below.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app's features change. We will revise the "Effective" date above and publish the updated policy at this address. Continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
