How ScanKit handles your information — in plain language.
ScanKit (the "app", "we", or "us"), published by Dowble, is a document scanner for iOS and Android. It lets you capture documents with your camera, clean them up, recognize text (OCR), organize them into folders, and export or share them as PDFs or images. This Privacy Policy explains what the app does and does not do with information on your device. It applies to both the iOS and Android versions.
ScanKit processes the following locally on your device only. None of it is transmitted to us or to any server.
Photos you capture with the camera, and images or files you import, are processed and saved in the app's private storage so you can view, edit, and export them. Original captures may be kept as well if you enable "Keep original images" in Settings.
When you run text recognition, the app analyzes a document's image on your device using an on-device machine-learning model to produce selectable text. The recognized text is stored with the document so you can copy, search, or export it. The image and the text are never sent off the device for recognition.
Document names, folders, tags, favorites, pin/archive state, and page order are stored locally to keep your library organized.
Your settings — theme, default page size and quality, enhancement mode, export format, and (on Android) the optional app-lock preference — are stored locally on the device.
ScanKit does not access your contacts, call logs, location, microphone, health data, or accounts, and does not build any advertising profile.
ScanKit requests permissions only when a feature needs them, and each is optional to the extent the platform allows.

Face ID / BiometricsiOS: Face ID · Android: USE_BIOMETRIC |
Only if you enable the optional app lock. Authentication is handled by the operating system; ScanKit never sees or stores your biometric data. On iOS you may instead use the system's built-in per-app lock. |
ScanKit does not require an account and does not need an internet connection for scanning, editing, OCR, PDF creation, or organizing your documents.
Information processed by the app is used solely to provide its features: capturing and enhancing scans, recognizing text, generating PDFs, organizing your library, and exporting or sharing when you ask it to. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the features you see in the app.
ScanKit only sends content somewhere when you initiate it — for example tapping Share, Print, Open In, or exporting a file. In those cases the file is handed to the destination you choose (another app, a printer, the Files/Photos app, email, or a nearby-share target) through the operating system's standard share mechanism. That destination's own handling of the file is governed by its provider, not by us. We ourselves do not receive, store, or transmit your documents. No accountsNo serversNo third-party sharing by us
Your documents and settings remain on your device until you remove them. You can:
All processing happens on-device, and app data is kept in the operating system's private, per-app storage that other apps cannot read (the app sandbox on iOS, private app storage on Android). Sensitive preferences such as the optional app-lock secret are stored in the platform secure store (Keychain on iOS, encrypted storage on Android). Because nothing is uploaded, there is no server-side database of your documents that could be breached. You remain in control through the system permission model at all times.
ScanKit is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app collects no data on our side and has no online account system, it poses no data-collection risk to users of any age.
ScanKit does not integrate advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or social-login providers, and embeds no third-party trackers. The app uses an on-device text-recognition library (Google ML Kit Text Recognition) whose model is bundled with the app and runs locally; it does not send your images or text to Google or anyone else to perform recognition. PDF, sharing, and file features are implemented with standard on-device libraries.
Consistent with this policy:
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA/CPRA. Since ScanKit does not collect or hold any of your personal data on our side, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf — full control rests with you on your device.
We may update this Privacy Policy if the app's features change. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date above and publish the updated policy at this address. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
