Privacy Policy

How MiniPlayer handles your information โ€” in plain language.

App: MiniPlayer Package: com.dowble.miniplayer Version: 1.0 Effective: 21 June 2026

The short version

1. Who we are

MiniPlayer (the "app", "we", or "us") is an Android utility that shows a floating media controller โ€” a small bubble that appears while music or other media is playing โ€” so you can play/pause, skip tracks, scrub, and see the current song without opening the notification panel or switching apps. This Privacy Policy explains what the app does and does not do with information on your device.

2. Information the app accesses

MiniPlayer processes the following information locally on your device only. None of it is transmitted off the device.

a. Active media session & now-playing details

To control playback, the app uses Android's media-session APIs to connect to the media app you are currently playing from. It reads the now-playing metadata exposed by that app โ€” such as track title, artist, album, album artwork, and playback position/state โ€” purely to render the controller and the progress ring. This information is displayed live and is not written to any database, log, or file, and is never sent anywhere.

b. Foreground app โ€” optional Reading Mode (AccessibilityService API)

Mini Player+ uses the Android AccessibilityService API solely to power the optional Reading Mode feature. When (and only when) you explicitly enable it, the service detects the package name of the app currently in the foreground so the floating controller can automatically dim and dock itself while you are in a reader or PDF app.

The accessibility usage is strictly limited to this purpose:

Reading Mode is entirely optional and is off by default. Before the service is requested, the app shows a clear in-app disclosure that you must explicitly accept; the rest of the app works fully without it, and you can disable the service at any time in Settings โ†’ Accessibility.

c. App preferences & bubble position

Your settings โ€” bubble size, transparency, corner radius, theme, style, gestures, auto-show/hide, reading mode โ€” along with the bubble's saved position and size, are stored locally on the device so they persist across restarts.

MiniPlayer does not access your contacts, call logs, location, photos, microphone, camera, accounts, or the text of your notifications and messages.

3. Permissions and why they are needed

PermissionPurpose
BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICE
(Notification access)
Android requires this permission before an app may enumerate active media sessions (MediaSessionManager.getActiveSessions). MiniPlayer uses it only to find the media you're playing so it can show controls. It does not read, store, or transmit your notification content. You grant it once in your device's Notification access settings and can revoke it anytime.
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW
(Display over other apps)
To draw the floating media controller on top of other apps so you can control playback from anywhere.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE To keep the floating controller and its connection to the active media session running while you use it, with an ongoing status notification as required by Android.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS To display that ongoing foreground-service notification.
BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE
(optional โ€” Reading Mode)
Optional. Used solely to detect the foreground app's package name so the bubble can switch to Reading Mode. It retrieves no screen content and stores nothing. Disabled unless you turn it on.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED To restore the floating controller automatically after your device restarts, if you've enabled it.
VIBRATE To provide subtle haptic feedback for gestures.

The app is built without the INTERNET permission, so it is technically incapable of sending your data over the network.

4. How information is used

Information accessed by the app is used solely to provide its core function: displaying media controls and the playback progress ring, switching to Reading Mode when you've enabled it, and remembering your preferences and the bubble's position. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the features you see in the app.

5. Data sharing and transfers

We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your information to anyone. Because the app has no network access, your media details and preferences never leave your device and are never sent to us or to any third party. No serversNo third partiesNo cloud

6. Data retention and deletion

Your settings and the bubble's position remain on your device until you delete them. You can:

7. Security

All processing happens on-device, and app data is kept in Android's private per-app storage, which other apps cannot read. Because nothing is uploaded, there is no server-side database that could be breached. You remain in control through Android's permission system at all times.

8. Children's privacy

MiniPlayer is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app collects no data and has no online component, it poses no data-collection risk to users of any age.

9. Third-party services

MiniPlayer does not integrate advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or social login providers. It does not embed any third-party trackers. It interacts with the media apps you choose to play, but only through Android's standard media-session interface, and shares no data with them beyond the playback commands you issue.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. Since MiniPlayer does not collect or hold any of your personal data on our side, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf โ€” full control rests with you on your device.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if the app's features change. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date above and publish the updated policy at this address. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
