How EditX handles your information — in plain language.
EditX (the "app", "we", or "us") is an Android photo and video studio. You can shoot with live filters, import clips and photos, edit video, retouch stills, build collages and framed creator layouts, add captions, and export the result to your gallery — all on the device. This Privacy Policy explains what the app does and does not do with information on your device.
EditX processes the following information locally on your device only. None of it is transmitted to us.
When you import clips, photos, or audio — including from the system share sheet or an "Open with / Edit with" action — the app reads the files you explicitly select so they can be previewed, edited, and combined. It does not scan or upload your gallery in the background.
If you shoot in-app, the camera and (for video) the microphone capture that take. Voiceover recording and text-to-speech use the microphone or Android's on-device speech engine only when you start those tools. The app never records in the background and never transmits captured audio or video.
Some tools analyse a frame on the phone so they can retouch skin, reshape a face, blur or replace a background, or cut a person out of a still. Face and person models used for those tools run locally. An optional subject-segmentation assist may ask Google Play Services, on devices that have it, to download a model to the device; that download is handled by Play Services, the picture is still processed on the phone, and the feature degrades without it. Auto captions use Android's on-device speech recogniser. Android may ask for the Microphone permission before that recogniser will transcribe a file already on storage; EditX does not record while captioning, and the audio does not leave the phone.
Projects and drafts (clip references, timeline, filters, captions, and similar) live in the app's private storage. Deleted projects may wait in an in-app Trash for the retention you set, then are destroyed. Exports you save are written to folders you can see in the gallery or Downloads (for example Movies/EditX, Pictures/EditX, Download/EditX).
Settings such as theme, accent colour, export defaults, trash retention, and editor backdrop are stored locally on the device.
EditX does not access your contacts, call logs, location, SMS, or accounts.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_AUDIO(Read media — Android 13+) |
To let you browse and import the videos, photos, and audio you want to edit. On older devices this is covered by READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE. |
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE(Android 8 and below) |
To save an export into public Movies or Pictures folders on devices that predate scoped storage. Android 10+ does not need this permission. |
CAMERA |
Optional. To shoot photos and video inside the app when you choose to. Not required to use the editor. The camera hardware is not required to install the app. |
RECORD_AUDIO |
Optional. To capture sound while recording, to record a voiceover, and because Android's on-device speech recogniser asks for it before auto captions will run — even on a file already on the device. Used only when you start those actions. Nothing is sent off the phone. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
To show export progress and let you know when an export finishes, with the option to share it. |
INTERNET |
Declared but not used by editing in this version. All importing, shooting, editing, on-device assists, and exporting work offline. The permission is reserved for optional cloud-based features that are not shipped today. If those are added, this policy will be updated first and any data handling will be clearly disclosed and opt-in. Opening Rate, Share, or Feedback uses Android's own share sheet or email app — that is you leaving the app, not EditX uploading your projects. |
Information accessed by the app is used solely to provide its core function: importing and editing the media you choose, shooting or recording when you ask, running on-device assists you tap, exporting the finished file, and remembering your projects and preferences. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the features you see in the app.
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your information to anyone. In this version the app performs editing on-device, so your videos and photos are not sent to us. Sharing only happens when you explicitly tap to share an export using Android's own share sheet, or when you send feedback through your email app. No serversNo third-party adsNo analytics
On devices with Google Play Services, an optional on-device ML model for subject assist may be fetched by Play Services. That is a model download to the phone, not an upload of your media.
Projects, drafts, trash, and settings remain on your device until you delete them. You can:
Editing happens on-device and app data is kept in Android's private per-app storage, which other apps cannot read. Because projects are not uploaded to us, there is no EditX server-side database of your media that could be breached. You remain in control through Android's permission system at all times.
EditX is a general-purpose creative tool and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app does not collect personal data on our side and does not run an online editing service in this version, it poses no data-collection risk to users of any age from our servers.
EditX does not integrate advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or social login providers. It does not embed third-party trackers. Bundled on-device ML (face and person segmentation) ships in the app. Optional subject segmentation and Android's speech recogniser are platform components on the device, not our analytics.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. Since EditX does not collect or hold your personal data on our side, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf — full control rests with you on your device.
We may update this Privacy Policy if the app's features change — for example, if optional online features are introduced. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date above and publish the updated policy at this address. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
