How ChessIQ handles your information — in plain language.
ChessIQ (the "app", "we", or "us") is a chess app for Android. It lets you play against an on-device chess engine at levels from beginner to master, play a friend on the same device, learn chess through step-by-step lessons and chapter tests, solve puzzles, study openings and endgames, keep a daily-goal streak, and review your saved games and statistics. This Privacy Policy explains what the app does and does not do with information on your device.
ChessIQ stores the following locally on your device only, in the app's private storage. None of it is transmitted to us.
Games you finish or save are kept so you can resume, review, or share them later. A saved game contains the moves, the result, the date, and the difficulty it was played at — nothing that identifies you.
Which lessons and chapter tests you have completed, your puzzle and study progress, and your daily-goal streak and badges are stored so the app can pick up where you left off.
Play statistics — such as games played, wins, losses and draws — are calculated from your locally saved games and stay on the device.
Your diamond balance (earned by playing, or bought) and the identifiers of purchases already credited — so a purchase is never credited twice — are stored on the device.
Your settings — language, light/dark theme, board and piece style, sound, vibration, coordinates, legal-move hints, and the daily reminder time — are stored on the device.
ChessIQ does not access your contacts, call logs, SMS, location, photos, files, microphone, camera, or device accounts. It has no login, no user profile, and no cloud sync.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
POST_NOTIFICATIONS(Notifications) |
To show the optional daily reminder to complete your chess goal. The reminder is created on your device; no notification is sent from a server. You can turn it off in the app's settings or deny the permission at any time. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED |
To restore your daily reminder after the device restarts, if you have it switched on. |
VIBRATE |
For optional haptic feedback when pieces move. Can be turned off in settings. |
com.android.vending.BILLING |
To let you buy diamonds through Google Play's in-app billing, if you choose to. |
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Used only by Google Play billing (to complete a purchase) and to download the app's interface fonts once (see section 5). Gameplay, lessons, puzzles and the chess engine work fully offline. |
The only permission Android asks you about is notifications; the others are granted at install and give the app no access to your personal data.
ChessIQ's computer opponent is a chess engine that runs entirely on your device's own processor. Your positions and moves are never sent to a remote server for evaluation. Lessons, chapter tests, puzzles and the opening collection ship inside the app package as bundled data — there is no content server and no download.

ChessIQ has no backend: no user accounts, no online play, no leaderboards, and no cloud backup. We operate no servers that receive data from the app. The app connects to the internet only in these two cases:
If you buy diamonds, the purchase is handled by Google Play. Google processes your payment under its own terms and the Google Privacy Policy. The app receives only confirmation that the purchase succeeded and an order identifier, which it stores on your device; we never receive your name, email address, or payment details.
The interface uses the open-source typefaces Cormorant Garamond and DM Sans, provided through the
google_fonts package. The first time they are needed, the app may download the font files from
Google's font service (fonts.gstatic.com) and cache them on the device. Google receives the standard
information any web request carries — principally your IP address and the font requested — under the
Google Privacy Policy. No information about you,
your games, or your app activity is included, and the request is not repeated once the fonts are cached.
If you choose to share a game or the app, or to contact support, the app hands the text to the share sheet or email app you pick; what happens next is up to you and that app. Likewise, a request to rate the app uses Google Play's in-app review screen.
Information stored by the app is used solely to provide the features you see: resuming and reviewing games, tracking lesson, puzzle and daily-goal progress, showing your statistics, keeping your diamond balance, and remembering your preferences. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the app's features.
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your information to anyone, because we never receive it in the first place. Your games and progress stay on your device.

Everything ChessIQ stores stays on your device until you remove it. You can:
Because we hold no copy of your data, deleting it on your device deletes it completely. Note that clearing the app's data also removes your diamond balance, as it is stored only on the device. Your purchase history remains available in your Google Play account.
All gameplay processing happens on-device, and app data is kept in Android's private per-app storage, which other apps cannot read. Because nothing is uploaded to us, there is no server-side database that could be breached. Your data is also protected by your device's own security — screen lock and full-device encryption.
ChessIQ is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app has no ads, no chat, no user-generated content, and no way for users to contact one another. Optional in-app purchases go through Google Play, where parents can require approval for purchases using Google Play's parental controls and Family Link.
ChessIQ integrates no advertising networks, no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, no social login providers, and no third-party trackers. The only third-party services the app can contact are Google Play (for purchases and in-app reviews) and Google's font service, as described in section 5.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as the GDPR or CCPA — to access, correct, export, or delete personal data a company holds about you. Since ChessIQ does not collect or hold any of your personal data on our side, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf; full control rests with you on your device. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA.
We may update this Privacy Policy if the app's features change. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date above and publish the updated policy at this address. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
