Privacy Policy

How Caissa handles your information — in plain language.

App: Caissa Application ID / Bundle ID: com.dowble.caissa Version: 0.1.0 Effective: 7 August 2026

The short version

1. Who we are

Caissa (the "app", "we", or "us") is an offline chess app for Android and iOS, published by Dowble. It lets you play against an on-device engine or a friend on the same device, solve puzzles, study openings and endgames, analyse your games, and review your saved games and statistics. This Privacy Policy explains what the app does and does not do with information on your device.

2. Information the app stores

Caissa stores the following locally on your device only, in the app's own private storage. None of it is transmitted off the device.

a. Saved games

Games you finish or save are kept on the device so you can review or analyse them later. A saved game contains the moves played, the result, the date, and the settings the game was played with — nothing that identifies you.

b. Puzzle and study progress

Which puzzles you have attempted or solved, your endgame and opening study progress, and any openings you bookmark are stored on the device so the app can pick up where you left off.

c. Statistics

Aggregate play statistics — such as games played, wins, losses, and draws — are calculated from your locally saved games and stay on the device.

d. App preferences

Your settings — light/dark theme, board palette, piece set, sound, haptics, coordinates, and legal-move hints — are stored on the device.

Caissa does not ask for or access your contacts, call logs, SMS, location, photos, files, microphone, camera, or any device accounts. It has no login, no user profile, and no cloud sync.

3. Permissions

Caissa requests no runtime permissions at all. There is no permission prompt to accept, and nothing to revoke.

PlatformWhat the app declares
Android The released app declares no permissions. In particular it is built without the INTERNET permission, so it is technically incapable of sending your data over the network. (The INTERNET permission appears only in internal debug and profile builds, which are used by developer tooling and are never published.)
iOS The app declares no privacy usage descriptions, because it never accesses the camera, microphone, photo library, location, contacts, calendars, health data, or tracking identifiers.

4. The chess engine, puzzles and opening book

Caissa's computer opponent is a chess engine that runs entirely on your device's own processor. Your positions and moves are never sent to a remote server for evaluation. The puzzle collection and the opening book ship inside the app package as bundled data files and are read straight from the app itself — there is no puzzle server, no database lookup, and no download.

5. Network use

Caissa has no backend. It has no user accounts, no leaderboards, no online play, no cloud backup, and no content downloads. We operate no servers that receive data from the app.

Fonts

Caissa's interface uses the open-source typefaces Inter and Fraunces, provided through the google_fonts package. On iOS, the first time the app runs, this package may fetch those font files from Google's font service (fonts.gstatic.com) and cache them on the device. If that happens, Google receives the standard request information any web request carries — principally your IP address and the font requested — under Google's Privacy Policy. No information about you, your games, or your app activity is included in that request, and it never repeats once the font is cached. On Android the released app has no internet permission, so no such request can occur and the app simply uses the system typeface.

Apart from this optional font fetch on iOS, Caissa makes no network requests of any kind.

6. How information is used

Information stored by the app is used solely to provide the features you see: continuing and reviewing your games, tracking puzzle and study progress, showing your statistics, and remembering your preferences. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, personalisation, or any purpose unrelated to the app's features.

7. Data sharing and transfers

We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your information to anyone, because we never receive it in the first place. Your games and progress stay on your device. No serversNo cloudNo data salesNo ad networks

8. Data retention and deletion

Everything Caissa stores stays on your device until you remove it. You can:

Because we hold no copy of your data, deleting it on your device deletes it completely.

9. Security

All processing happens on-device, and app data is kept in the platform's private per-app storage, which other apps cannot read. Because nothing is uploaded, there is no server-side database that could be breached. Your data is protected by your device's own security — screen lock, and full-device encryption on modern Android and iOS devices.

10. Children's privacy

Caissa is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app has no ads, no in-app purchases, no chat, no user-generated content, and no way for users to contact one another, so it presents no data-collection or contact risk to children.

11. Third-party services

Caissa integrates no advertising networks, no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, no social login providers, and no third-party trackers. The only third-party service the app can contact is Google's font service, and only in the limited circumstance described in section 5.

12. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as the GDPR or CCPA — to access, correct, export, or delete personal data a company holds about you. Since Caissa does not collect or hold any of your personal data on our side, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf. Full control rests with you on your device. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if the app's features change. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date above and publish the updated policy at this address. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
